Metallica and Jeff Beck Included On 2009 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inductee List. Yeah, but…
January 16, 2009
Classic rockers continue to angst over who gets nominated - and who doesn’t. Chic - but, not Chicago. Disco before Doobies. The Material Girl precedes the Moody Blues. Without fail, all Rock Hall nominees and inductees have always been incredibly talented artists. However, when it comes to the “It’s Only Rock and Roll” argument, the song remains the same. Some judges out there must have gone through a selection process similar to this. ”Hmmm, let’s see now… Born To Be Wild - nope, 25 or 6 to 4 - nope, Aqualung, China Grove, Smoke On The Water - nope, nope, nope. Like A Virgin - yup.
It’s hard enough to define Rock and Roll - let alone narrow it down “Hall of Fame” status. On the other hand, when you actually build something and call it the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame - you create a variety of expectations about what exactly qualifies nominees. There must be less complicated ways to do this. Take the Hit Parade Hall of Fame in New Orleans for example: “Qualifications for nomination require an artist to have had at least two top ten hits of any genre during a thirty year period beginning in 1950”. That was easy.
Maybe one way to identify potential Rock Hall inductees in the future is to listen to your average Classic Rock FM radio station. If they’ve been beating a song to death for five or ten years (like some of the tunes listed above), there’s a decent chance that the artist or band should be nominated.
And what is the definition of “Classic” Rock anyway? We’re working on it.

Back In The Saddle Again: New Aerosmith Album In The Works
January 7, 2009
Drummer Joey Kramer and bass player Tom Hamilton are already rehearsing for the first new Aerosmith studio album in eight years. According to their recent post on the band’s fan site AeroForceOne:
“Today is the first day Tom and I are getting back together. We just rehearsed for 2 hours and it feels so good! We can’t wait to get back into the studio and get back out on the road to do what we do best. We’ll check in from time to time and give you progress on how things are going. Until then…be well and Happy New Year!”
The album should be out this year.
Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck: Shape of Things To Come?
January 7, 2009
It doesn’t get much better than this: Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck together on the same stage. This is the first time the two legendary guitarists have been billed together at an arena concert. As of now, only two shows have been announced - at the Japanese Super Arena on February 21 and 22. If you’re going to be in the neighborhood, this might be your only chance to see these two former Yardbirds reunite… as of now, no U.S. dates have been announced.
