Prince, If You’re About To Rock - We Salute You

December 28, 2008

prrogersIf the Prince cover of “Crimson and Clover” (which includes a dose of The Troggs “Wild Thing”) is any indication, there’s light at the end of the tunnel for those not impressed with the current state of rock.   This was just one of four tunes that went for a test ride recently on a Los Angeles radio station and supposedly there are even more in the can.   Some fans remember seeing Prince “pre-1999″ on Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert and wondering if he was about to save rock n’ roll back then.  Better late than never.  Read the entire story HERE.

Imagine: John Lennon Starring In A Public Service Announcement — In 2009.

December 28, 2008

lennon1The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) organization has launched a Yoko-approved TV campaign powered by the image and voice of John. OLPC strives to get solar powered laptops to poor children around the world.  Some folks think its a great idea for a terrific cause. Others think the “heart is in the right place” but, find the presentation a bit creepy.  You be the judge:

Warning: Banging Your Head To Your Favorite Tune May Be Hazardous To Your Health

December 22, 2008

Can’t smoke, can’t eat what you want - can’t even bang your head to the music anymore according to new medical research in The British Journal.  Is there anything an aging boomer can still do that’s fun?  O.K. maybe you shouldn’t head-bang while driving once you get your AARP card - but, not at all??  NOTE:  If you find this news upsetting, do not read beyond this point… the “preventive interventions”  (which include “switching to easy-listening music like Michael Bolton, Celine Dion and Enya”) may be too much for you to bear.  Otherwise read more about it HERE.

December 19, 2008

From “Food That Rocks” by Margie Lapanja and Cindy Coverdale

READ ABOUT “FOOD THAT ROCKS” IN THE OAKLAND TRIBUNE

Joe Satriani’s Shrimp Scampi Pasta

2 pounds large prawns, cleaned and deveined

1/2 cup olive oil

2 tablespoons butter

2 cloves garlic, chopped

1 bunch parsley, chopped

1 tablespoon dried chile flakes

1 teaspoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

Clam juice (optional)

1 pound spaghetti

Parsley, as garnish

Parmesan cheese (optional) Boil enough water to immerse the cleaned shrimp for no more than one minute. When the shrimp start to turn pink, drain and set aside.

Combine olive oil, butter, garlic, and parsley in a large saucepan. Saut mixture until the slightest browning occurs. Add shrimp and sprinkle with chile flakes, sugar and salt. Cook until a light crust of parsley and spices forms around the shrimp. (Check the sauce: a bit of clam juice may be added to the sauce to stretch it if necessary.)

A Very Merry Christmas - And A Happy New Year, Lets Hope It’s A Good One - Without Any Fear

December 12, 2008

So this is Christmas

And what have you done

Another year over

And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas

I hope you have fun

The near and the dear one

The old and the young

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let’s hope it’s a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas

For weak and for strong

For rich and the poor ones

The world is so wrong

And so happy Christmas

For black and for white

For yellow and red ones

Let’s stop all the fight

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let’s hope it’s a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas

And what have we done

Another year over

And a new one just begun

Ans so this is Christmas

I hope you have fun

The near and the dear one

The old and the young

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let’s hope it’s a good one

Without any fear

War is over over

If you want it

War is over

Now…
